This was one of the first pieces I created in this style and marked the beginning of my Birmingham Collection.
The library is well known for its iconic pattern, which I knew I had to get right. Once that foundation was in place, I had the freedom to explore the rest of the composition more creatively. I began by using collage on paper to construct the basic shape. In the reference photo, sunlight was beaming over the top of the building, which inspired the inclusion of the flower as a bold pop of colour, contrasting with the blue. I then digitally painted the circles over the piece to bring it all together.
