Birmingham Open 2025
I’m pleased to share that my work is currently on display in Victoria Square as part of this year’s Birmingham Open.
The exhibition is a celebration of emerging artistic talent across the city, hosted by Colmore BID and Central BID. The selected works are exhibited throughout Victoria Square and Snow Hill and will remain on display until the end of June.
About the Artwork
The theme for this year’s exhibition is “Light”, inspired by the recent Birmingham Light Festival. I wanted this to be reflected through the colour palette, using vibrant tones to create a strong sense of energy and brightness.
The piece began as a physical collage on canvas, combining monoprints, tissue paper, and abstract sketches. I used gouache paints to build up rich, layered colour, and added texture using old brushes and pens. At this stage, the process was quite intuitive, I gradually built up the layers, focusing on basic shapes to form the image while carefully balancing contrasting colours to enhance the vibrancy throughout the piece.
Once I was happy with the composition, I scanned the canvas and brought it into Procreate, where I added finer details and bold strokes of colour digitally.
Limited edition prints of “Birmingham Canal” are now available through my Etsy shop.
